Capcom has announced two new Mastermind characters and two maps for Resident Evil Resistance, the 4 versus 1 multiplayer game that is being included with Resident Evil 3. The Mastermind characters will be the infamous villains Alex Wesker and Ozwell E. Spencer. Both characters will be included with the title when it launches alongside Resident Evil 3 on April 3, 2020.
Resident Evil Resistance is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that will force a team of four players to work together as the Mastermind lays traps and sends hordes of monsters after them. The Mastermind does not interact with the survivors directly but will have access to a series of cards that allow them to summon creatures, manipulate the environment, and use other abilities to impede the survivors’ escape. On the other side, the survivors must use their weapons and special abilities to kill any enemies they come across and escape before time runs out. The most interesting aspect of the game is that Masterminds have the ability to summon bioweapons like the Tyrant that can be controlled directly in order to kill all of the survivors.
Capcom was very excited to announce that Alex Wesker and Ozwell E. Spencer would be additions to the game. Wesker was the main antagonist of Resident Evil Revelations 2 and her playstyle lends more towards slowing survivors down as much as possible. Most of her abilities involve setting up roadblocks and traps to stop players from escaping. If this does not work then she is capable of summoning the carnivorous plant Yateveo, which is stationary but capable of impeding progress. Spencer, on the other hand, is one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation and uses company tech to harm survivors. Rather than controlling a bioweapon like the others, Spencer instead deploys a disintegration field to cause damage.
Additionally, Capcom revealed the artwork for two brand-new maps that will be coming to the game. The first is the aptly titled Casino which is set in an abandoned casino in Raccoon City. The facility was abandoned so quickly during the city’s collapse that the slot machines are still operating, and chips cover the floor. The second map is called Abandoned Park and is an old amusement park on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Evidently, the park was also quickly abandoned when monsters attacked the city. Aren’t zombie outbreaks fun?
Fans have been incredibly excited for the Resident Evil 3 remake since it was confirmed back in December. This excitement dimmed a little when the Capcom stated that Mercenaries mode would not be making an appearance with the game. The original Mercenaries mode was widely beloved by Resident Evil fans, so it is understandably upsetting. The new details surrounding Resident Evil Resistance seem to be very interesting, though. Here’s hoping that Capcom fans find Resistance to be a suitable replacement.
