Resident Evil 2 stats show which bodies you’ve looked at the most while playing. A remake of the classic PlayStation game, Resident Evil 2 has sold a total of three million copies within the game’s first week of release. That’s an exceptional number, but there are several other statistics that Capcom is proudly touting.
Resident Evil 2 is, in many ways, a return to form for the franchise. The newest numeric entry in the series abandoned the over-the-shoulder camera angle in favor of placing gamers into a first-person perspective. That game, Resident Evil 7, achieved low sales numbers as a result, as fans didn’t end up being huge supporters of this niche approach to the horror genre. Despite these frustrations, Capcom has now provided some more information on how players are engaging with Resident Evil 2.
Capcom posted various stats for the game on ResidentEvil.net so that users can compare their own Resident Evil 2 experience with other players. Everything from the total number of zombies killed since launch to which bodies scattered throughout Raccoon City have been looked at the most by players have been recorded by the publisher. Through the site, it was confirmed that a majority of users selected Leon Kennedy for their first playthrough - totaling a difference of 79 percent to 21 percent in favor of the Resident Evil 4 protagonist. Most shockingly, Capcom has also been measuring the amount of time players spend observing some of the corpses laying around the game, with 29 percent of all players taking a moment to stare at the body of the mayor’s daughter in particular.
Setting aside that unsettling statistic, other noteworthy numbers include the fact that 196,209,445 cockroaches were triggered, 71,497,187 in-game kilometers have been walked by players, and 218,342,668 enemies have been killed thus far. These numbers showcase a very passionate fan base at the very least, and one that is likely playing through each character scenario multiple times. Since completing that activity is incentivized with unlockable costumes for Resident Evil 2’s protagonists, this information hardly comes a surprise.
The multiple endings of Resident Evil 2 also give fans a reason to go back and play through the experience time and time again. It’s an interesting layout for any game, but an especially revolutionary vision for a title that originally released back in 1998. With secrets still lurking about, like Chris Redfield’s character model hidden within Resident Evil 2, there are sure to be plenty of additional stats and surprises released by Capcom in the future. In the meantime, Resident Evil 2’s free Ghost Survivors mode DLC is sure to act as a fun distraction filled with even more stats for Capcom to track when it arrives on February 15, 2019.
