The remake of Resident Evil 2 provides one of the most visually impressive titles ever created while recreating the dread-filled environments of the Capcom classic. From the manipulation of the third-person shooter genre to best fit what makes survival horror a popular genre to the masterfully crafted visual and audio design, Resident Evil 2 is a master class of horror. Capcom transcribes what made Resident Evil 2 such a terrifying experience to fit modern necessities. Coupled with some newly implemented systems and mechanics and Remake surpasses its predecessor in both horror and technological impressiveness. Capcom has paved the way for the future of survival horror as a genre, and the future of the Resident Evil genre with the success of Remake.
Capcom’s reboot of the cult classic title provides a variety of improvements from its predecessor. Whether it be the inclusion of the over the shoulder camera, the inclusion of the horrifying pseudo-omnipresent Mr. X, or even a changing of where creatures can be found in the game Remake builds upon the success of the original title. One aspect of this improvement is the creation of collectible and secrets that skillful players can acquire. Whether it be a clever easter egg or a powerful weapon or weapon mod that may have been secret upon a first playthrough. One of these collectibles is the inclusion of the Raccoon Toys throughout the playable Racoon City. By finding all of these toys players will receive a well-deserved achievement on top of the satisfaction of being one of the few players to find each toy.
