It’s nowhere near Halloween, but Red Dead Online players are finding themselves confronted with a spooky surprise as hackers ambush them with skeletons. Sometimes hackers do some bad stuff – DDoS attacks, stealing everything a player has equipped and more. What’s great about this series of strange incidents is how much fun everyone is having with it.

When most people think of video game hacks, they think of incidents like the time Fallout 76 hackers robbed players of everything in their inventories or EVE Online DDoS attackers who brought the community to its knees. Hackers of varying threat levels often do some pretty bad stuff – so when they decide to just have a bit of fun it can be a refreshing experience.

VG247 reports that unsuspecting players have been met with some strange experiences in Red Dead Online. Numerous reports have been popping up that players are being attacked by weird double-headed skeletons. The spooky creatures just come out of nowhere and begin beating on someone who is just going about their day. One of the first reports shared by a player on Steam details what happened:

Some players are claiming that the Red Dead Online hackers are spawning them from while floating high above the world. Others say hackers are directly controlling the skeletons. The full details are not known, but there is some bad news and some good news. The bad news is that these skeletons seem to be invulnerable – but there is good news for players: these guys are also cowards and will run away when someone starts firing a gun. They are also vulnerable to being lassoed and dropped into a lake or off a cliff. This strange phenomenon can be seen in the video below:

“I was using my metal detector and it just punched me from behind and ran off when I switched to guns and started shooting. Also a grizzly bear appeared out of nowhere and killed me as I was shooting. Weird ♥♥♥♥. Ever happen to anyone before?”

Many are wondering where these skeletons come from in the first place. After all, there are no hordes of skeletal enemies attacking as part of the normal game. It’s too early for a Red Dead Redemption 2 Halloween event and Rockstar hasn’t announced anything. The model seems to come from the remains of a two-headed person in the wreckage of a circus freakshow.

Rockstar has not announced a fix for this issue, but players can at least be happy that no one is knocking the servers online, looting their inventories, or something else horrible. Overall, this seems to be just a bit of fun on the part of hackers. Players can avoid this by swapping servers or, as mentioned, by dropping the skellies into a hole.
