Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni shares an illustration of what Sabine and Ahsoka’s future might be like following the end of the Disney animated prequel. Wrapping up last year, the show took place right before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and followed a small band of rebels who crewed the Ghost. Despite achieving their goal, the end of the series didn’t come without any sacrifices for the beloved crew. After Kanan’s devastating death a couple of episodes prior, the team suffered another major loss after Ezra sacrificed his life to ensure that Lothal is safe. He opted to stay with Grand Admiral Thrawn as the Purrgil jumped to hyperspace with the villain’s ship.
This left Hera, Zeb, Chopper and Sabine to continue fighting the galactic Empire until Rebels jumped a few years ahead to reveal that the war was won following the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. But holding out hope that Ezra is still out in space, only waiting to be rescued, the series ended with a tease of Sabine and Ahsoka going on a mission to locate him.
While there’s no word yet whether or not the story will continue with Sabine and Ahsoka, Filoni offers fans a glimpse of what their future might be like. Commemorating the first year anniversary of the end of Rebels, the show creator shared his drawing on his official Twitter account visuazlizing what the heroines may have been look like after the series wrapped up. Check out the artwork below:
Reports from late last year suggest that Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian may feature Sabine after the character’s helmet was reportedly spotted on the set of the upcoming Disney Plus show. Her supposed cameo fits the established timeline considering that the the spinoff series takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. While this is by no means a guarantee, it would be cool to see her and Ahsoka pop up in other Star Wars narratives as they continue their mission to look for Ezra.
Not much can be deciphered from the drawing in terms of potential narrative, but it doesn’t seem like it will be a walk in the park to find Ezra. Filoni has previously confirmed that the young Jedi is alive, albeit his whereabouts are currently unknown after people saw the last of him in Star Wars Rebels finale. Given this, fans of the show have been eagerly anticipating the next time he re-emerges, especially since he exhibited impressive ability to tap into the Force. With the Jedi near extinct with Rey (Daisy Ridley) the only one remaining after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it would be a nice surprise seeing him return for Star Wars 9. As for Ahsoka and Sabine, considering how their separate stories are among the most interesting in the lore, fans would be down to explore more of their future whether in a new spinoff animated series or on the big screen.
