A woman dressed in a Minnie Mouse costume took down a security guard in a sidewalk fight in Las Vegas. The incident was caught on camera by passers-by who witnessed the costumed woman as two men in Goofy and Mickey Mouse costumes attempted to stop her.
Traditionally, Minnie Mouse leads a fairly innocent life. One of the original Disney characters, Minnie was created by Walt Disney himself, as well as cartoonist Ub Iwerks. She made her first appearance on screen as early as 1929, and she continues to be one of the defining mascots of the House of Mouse, starring in everything from her own animated TV series Minnie’s Bow-Toons to the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise. What she’s not typically synonymous with, however, is violence.
In a video posted online (via: New York Post), a woman dressed up as Minnie Mouse in Las Vegas attacked a woman wearing a security jacket, grabbing her and punching her repeatedly. Onlookers watched and taped the incident, while two individuals with the woman dressed as Minnie Mouse did their best to pull her off the security guard. One of the two individuals, dressed as Mickey Mouse, is heard saying, “We’ve got to go, we’ve got to go,” before successfully pulling her off the other woman. Finally, as the two others ran off, the other man with them wearing a Goofy costume followed them, holding onto their Minnie and Mickey masks. Check out the video below:
As of now, no one has filed an official complaint, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, though the police are in the process of attempting “to identity the suspect.” It is also unclear what ultimately led to the fight in the first place, as the footage picks up immediately as the fight begins. That said, another video that was taken prior to the fight shows the two women arguing with each other over an unknown matter.
Though this incident doesn’t have the lasting power to affect the real Minnie Mouse’s reputation, it does at least show Mickey Mouse and Goofy in a positive light - for what it’s worth. Also, the Walt Disney Company has come back from worse PR over the past 80-odd years that they’ve been around. Plus, now that they officially own the rights to future Deadpool films, they ought to get used to seeing some of their most popular characters involve themselves in unwarranted fist fights.
