The Real Housewives of New York’s Barbara Kavovit is officially leaving the show after appearing as a supporting character on the latest season. She was a close friend of star Luann de Lesseps before joining the cast.
Fans met Kavovit on Season 11 of The Real Housewives of New York, during which time she was introduced as a good friend of de Lesseps, who she’d supported following her arrest at the end of 2017. Despite being close with de Lesseps, Kavovit never managed to mesh with the other women on the show. She felt like an outcast when she attended group trips with the cast this past season, and even felt abandoned by de Lesseps, who was wrapped up in her burgeoning cabaret career. While she didn’t make a splash, and viewers didn’t expect her to be given a golden apple (which main cast members hold in the opener of the show), it was a shock when she revealed she wouldn’t be returning to the series at all.
Kavovit posted a photo to Instagram, captioning it, “Home Sweet Home #Hamptons What are ya’ll up to this #saturday?” One of her followers asked her outright in the comments if she was going to be returning to Real Housewives of New York, to which Kavovit replied, “Don’t think so love.” Her response made it sound like it was more of the network’s decision, not hers. A lot of her fans expressed their disappointment with Bravo’s choice, saying they felt Kavovit was cut from the show too soon, before she was really given a proper chance to find her place.
One follower commented, “Oh noooooo!! Barbara we love you. I wish you nothing but the best. You would be a awesome friend. But please come back.” Another fan said the other women on the show weren’t very welcoming to Kavovit and that it wasn’t her fault. Another commented that all Real Housewives newbies have a hard time warming up to the rest of the cast at first, and that Kavovit deserved another season to prove herself.
Unfortunately, some Real Housewives of New York stars disagreed, with Ramona Singer saying Kavovit didn’t “gel” with the rest of them. It’s unclear if there will be another “friend” supporting character on the show in Season 12, airing next year. But if there is, hopefully they have an easier time fitting in with these over-the-top women than Kavovit did.
