The Real Housewives of New Jersey husband, Joe Giudice, requested a release from ICE amid deportation appeal. The 49-year-old is tired of waiting for the courts to decide his fate.
In 2013, both Joe and Teresa were indicted for filing a false bankruptcy report, trying to hide their wealth. Joe had also been indicted for failing to file tax returns between 2004 and 2008. Teresa was sentenced to 15 months behind bars and was released from federal prison after only having served 11 months.
The Giudice’s family arrived in court on September 11 to show support for Joe, though his children could not attend as they were in school. It has been reported by Radar Online that his wife, Teresa, arrived separately and did not speak to his family. The Giudice family has harbored feelings toward the Real Housewife of New Jersey star for her constant partying at the Jersey shore and in Mykonos, which they believe is unforgivable behavior. The lawyer for Joe argued in court that he should be released from ICE custody on bond while he still fights a deportation order in an appeal. The lawyer argued that Joe is eligible for release because he has spent more than 180 consecutive days locked up. The prosecutor on the case disagreed and stated that since Joe has had a history of convictions and past crimes, he should not be eligible, saying that he is a flight risk and a danger to society.
Joe was originally an Italian citizen who moved to the United States when he was only a child. He never applied for American citizenship, and under U.S. law immigrants can be deported if they have been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude or a felony. Since his release from federal prison, the reality star was transferred to a facility in Pennsylvania that holds immigration detainees. The father of four was granted permission in May to continue to live in the U.S. while he awaits his fate.
The Bravo star has said in the past that if his appeal is denied, he would ready himself to return to Italy. His wife, Teresa, had also openly stated on a reunion show that if her husband were to be deported, she would not go with him and file for a divorce. For most fans, it’s upsetting that Joe chose these detrimental actions over the quality of life for his family, essentially losing everything.
