The  Real Housewives of Orange County star Gina Kirschenheiter’s husband has officially been charged with domestic violence and is due back in court this Friday.

Many of the housewives go through marital issues while filming for the hit Bravo show; Gina is no exception to this rule. The two initially met before they graduated from college and were together for 11 years. Back in July of 2018, the reality star filed for divorce from her husband after seven years of marriage due to him having an affair. Fans watched Gina on season 13 try and hide how messy her divorce had become, always saying that they were each other’s best friends. She finally moved out at the end of last season, taking her three children with her. The housewife found out quickly that sometimes living a luxury lifestyle is not all it was cracked up to be.

The new season of The Real Housewives of Orange County had just started and already there is plenty of drama. Us Weekly confirmed via court documents that Gina’s ex-husband, Matthew Kirshenheiter, had been charged with domestic violence on September 4. Matthew, who is 35, was charged with two felony counts by the Orange County District Attorney of a violent incident that happened on June 22 involving his ex-wife Gina. The court documents go on to say that Matthew purposely inflicted harm on his ex-wife, causing her to have a traumatic condition. The judge in the case had also ordered Matthew to receive routine alcohol and drug testing. After the June altercation, Gina did file for a restraining order as the paperwork also claimed that her ex violated her personal liberty by choking her, hitting her, dragging her, and even threatening to kill her while their children were in the house.

If Matthew is found guilty, the Orange County District Attorney is asking that he face the maximum sentence of four years and eight months in state prison. In addition, an arraignment date will only be set once Matthew turns himself in to authorities. As of now, the couple will share legal custody of their three children once their divorce is finalized in January of 2020. The Real Housewife of Orange County star will have primary custody, but her husband will have weekend time to spend with the children. Matthew had been told that he will also have to pay $9,627 monthly; this total includes child support and spousal support. The couple is due back in court on October 10 to work on the terms of their divorce.

In the current season, fans are watching Gina maneuver through the choppy waters of separation, finally announcing that she was unhappy in her relationship. The other housewives have quickly come to Gina’s side, especially Shannon Beador, who was already seen in the second episode confronting her friend and offering the support of a lawyer.
